The `uli uli are the most essential and versatile of the hula implements. They can be used singly or in pairs, by both women and men, from the most playful `auana to the fiercest kahiko dances.
Small gourds from the la`amea tree are hollowed out and filled with tiny beads or ali`i poe seeds. A handle is attached and topped off with decorative feather-work.
Our `uli `uli are handmade in Hawai`i,
with a yellow feather center, surrounded by a halo of red feathers.
Feather tops for the small `uli `uli measure aprroximately 8" in diameter, medium tops are 10", and large tops are 12".
Gourd sizes range from 11" - 12" around. We try to keep a good supply on hand, but stock varies and orders may occasionally take up to seven working days to fill.
