The group consisted of mother Mary Ann (vocals, `ukulele), father Elmer Sr. (rhythm guitar), daughters Nani (vocals, `ukulele, tiple), and Lorna (vocals, bass), and son Elmer Jr. (slack-key guitar, steel guitar, banjo).
According to producer Keith Haugen, “The Lim Family already had developed a distinctive style – a ‘swing’ to their music. That, and the hula-tempo of songs that they chose, makes you want to move as you listen.”
The group recorded five albums for the Pumehana Record label between 1979 and 1983. The group took a break following the death of Elmer Sr., and returned in 1988 with Aloha Na Makana. They have since released two more albums, Na Mele No Na Hanauna (2001), and Launa`ole (2005).
